Date: Wednesday, 28 May 2025 & Tuesday, 03 June 2025
Locations: GHS Buea & G.S Likoko Membea
In a beautiful union of purpose and partnership, REACH BACK, in collaboration with the South West Regional Delegation of the Ministry of Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development (MINEPDED) and other civil society organizations, led a transformative tree planting campaign in two schools: GHS Buea and G.S Likoko Membea.
Fruit trees including Soursop, Pear and Guava were planted—not just in soil, but in the hearts of over 100 students who now see themselves as protectors of nature.
Before the planting, students were sensitized on the importance of trees, their nutritional and medicinal benefits, and how to tag their names to take personal ownership of the trees they planted.
💬 Student & Staff Testimonials:
- 🌿 “It is great having the soursop tree here. I know the health benefits of trees and I will ensure we protect and sustain them.” – Mme Mboke Martha, Principal, GHS Buea
- 🌱 “Uncle, as my name is on this tree, I will take care of it like my junior brother. Thank you very much for this opportunity.” – Enanga, Class 5, G.S Likoko Membea (said through tears)
- 🍃 “I’ve only ever seen big, big people planting trees. I thought it didn’t concern pupils like me. But today, I feel truly connected.” – Wade, Class 6, G.S Likoko Membea
- 🌎 “It’s been a wonderful opportunity being part of the environmental club. I’m inspired to become an environmental ambassador.” – Tabifor, Form 4, GHS Buea
- 🍀 “I didn’t know soursop was this useful. Chai! From the leaves to the bark and the fruit—I’ll plant some at home for my family’s wellbeing.” – Moki, Lower Sixth, GHS Buea
Through this campaign, REACH BACK continues to sow seeds of environmental consciousness, health awareness and student-led climate action.
🌳 Each tree planted is a promise—for a greener future, for healthier communities and for empowered youth who care.
